SANTA FE, NM (AP) A New Mexico woman is suing a novelty products maker over a flask that includes her likeness and the phrase, “I’m going to be the most popular girl in rehab.”

Veronica Vigil alleges in her federal court lawsuit that Anne Tainter, Inc. obtained and used her high school graduation picture from 1970 without her permission. The lawsuit says the Brooklyn, New York-based company then defamed Vigil by linking her image to a product that makes light of substance abuse.

Court documents say the Chimayo, New Mexico resident is an active church member and doesn’t consumer alcohol or drugs. Vigil claims unspecified damages for injury to her reputation.

A spokeswoman for Anne Taintor, Inc. said the company does not comment on pending litigation.

Arrest Warrant for 9-Yr. Old

The Huffington Post, posted 1.12.15

An Idaho prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for a 9-yr. old boy who failed to show up in court.

KHO-TV reports that the boy from Post Falls is accused of stealing a pack of gum. Police Chief Scott Haug says it’ the first time in his 30 years of law enforcement that he’s ever seen an arrest warrant for someone that young.

Haug says the child missed court because relatives had no way of getting him to the courthouse. Kootenai County prosecutor Barry McHugh says the warrant was issued because the boy twice failed to appear as ordered. The child is currently in the Juvenile Detention Center.

Neighbor Sued for Cutting Garage In Half

WCCO CBS Minnesota The Huffington Post, posted 9.22.14

GRAND RAPIDS, MN (AP) – A Minnesota House of Representatives candidate is being sued after cutting his neighbor’s garage in half in a property dispute.

A lawsuit filed by Mark Besemann, of Iron, against Roger Weber, a Nashwauk Republican, asks for $20,000 in punitive damages, as well as a small portion of Weber’s land. The case was to be heard this week in Itasca County District Court. But, Besemann’s attorney said the case has been delayed.

Besemann claims he has found himself in the middle of a family dispute. Weber’s sister sold the garage, house and 1 acre to Besemann while Weber owned the 39 acres around it. Weber says half the garage was on his property, so he removed it. Weber’s attorney has not returned calls to comment.

Pittsburgh Sued Over SWAT Raid on Wrong Home

Pittsburgh Post Gazette, 8.13.15 by Torsten Ove

A north side family sued Pittsburgh police on Thursday, saying the SWAT team kicked in their door by mistake, terrorized them and left without apology.

Tabatha Werkmeister and Grinage Dion Wilson filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court claiming the SWAT unit raided their apartment on Jan. 25 without cause or a warrant, forcing them and their four children into the cold and holding them in the back of a police truck for about an hour.

No one in the family was sought by the police and there was no warrant. Officers should have known they had the wrong address, the suit said.

The suit said the SWAT team arrived at the Brighton Heights duplex where the family was sleeping on the second and third floors. Someone else lived in the first-floor apartment who was apparently the target of the raid.

According to the complaint, police kicked down the wrong door, threw a smoke bomb and then carried two of Ms. Werkmeister’s sons to a police van. Neither child was wearing pants or shoes.

Werkmeister, Mr. Wilson and two other children were then forced out into the snow, also without shoes. Officers held the family in the van for about an hour, eventually letting them back into their house. One officer handed Mr. Wilson a card and told him to hire someone to fix the broken door. Werkmeister was told she should have a number on the door.
